Edwin Correia
French-Brazilian guitarist and composer born in 1994, Edwin Correia discovered jazz at the age of 14, he joined the jazz department of Toulon where he was taught by Jean Philippe Sempere.
In 2012, after obtaining his baccalaureate, he moves to Paris and immerses himself in the musical universe and the effervescence of the capital. He studied at the CRR of Paris and Boulogne-Billancourt with Manu Codjia and Vincent Le Quang as well as at the University of Paris-Sorbonne where he took courses in history, analysis and classical writing. He obtained his diploma from the conservatory and his bachelor’s degree in musicology. He then decided to enter the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne. There he studied with Emil Spanyi (composition), Vinz Vonlanthen and Sylvain Luc (guitar) and obtained a bachelor and a master in composition/performance as well as a master in instrumental pedagogy.
Inspired by the great masters of Bebop, he is impregnated with improvised music and blues. His Brazilian origins give him the opportunity to immerse himself in the folkloric cultures of Pernambuco. The composition is then naturally an expression of his personal universe, tinged with blues, traditional music of the Brazilian Nordeste and the heritage of jazz.
His first trio album “Brilhante” was released on November 4, 2022 on the InMelo Music label, with Matyas Szandai on double bass and François Christe on drums.
